The Magic of Golden Hour: Why Timing Matters in Photography

If you've ever scrolled through a photography portfolio and wondered why some photos have that warm, glowing, almost-magical quality — the answer is almost always golden hour.
Golden hour happens twice a day: shortly after sunrise and in the hour before sunset. The sun is low on the horizon, and the light it casts is soft, warm, and deeply flattering on faces. Shadows are long and gentle. Colors feel rich. Everything just looks a little more beautiful.
We plan all of our outdoor sessions around this window of light whenever possible. Is it always convenient? Not always — especially for families with young kids who go to bed early! But when you see the results, most people agree it's worth the slightly later start time.
Great light doesn't make a great photo on its own — connection, emotion, and authenticity matter far more. But beautiful light makes every moment look like it was meant to be remembered forever.
